Dental Hygiene Program Administrator

Savannah Technical College - STC

Savannah Technical College is seeking a 12-month, full time Dental Hygiene Program Administrator to perform instructional duties and supervise all aspects of the Dental Hygiene program.  Characteristic duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under general supervision, demonstrates the use of appropriate teaching techniques. 
  • Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures, including proper maintenance of grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping required. 
  • Demonstrates the effective use of oral and written communication skills. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current procedures in the Dental Assisting/ Hygiene field. 
  • Follows approved course syllabus. 
  • Monitors students’ use of supplies, materials, and equipment. 
  • Advises and counsels students and maintains appropriate advisement records on each student classrooms and laboratories. 
  • Attends meetings as required and appropriate. 
  • Observes and enforces the institution’s policies and regulations. 
  • Assists with student recruitment and job placement as directed by division Dean. 
  • Serves on committees as directed and coordinated by division Dean. 
  • Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual. 
  • Follows rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia and other policies and procedures established by the Savannah Technical College.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s or higher degree in Health, Dental Hygiene or related discipline.  Degree must be from a private or public postsecondary institution accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or both. 
  • Three (3) years paid work experience in-field within the past seven years in a clinical environment. Work experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels that the instructor will be expected to teach. 
  • Must be Licensed in the State of Georgia as a Dental Hygienist OR a Dentist. Licensed dentists must also have at least three (3) years teaching or administrative experience in education.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills to deal professionally with Savannah Tech employees, students, and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications (In addition to Minimum Qualifications):

  • A Master’s degree in Health, Dental Hygiene or related discipline.
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a Dental Hygiene education program leading to initial Dental Hygienist licensure or completion of a higher degree in Dental Hygiene within the past 7 years.
  • At least three (3) years of management experience.

Physical Demands – Health Science – job requires classroom and clinical responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time.  The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10lbs. or less.  Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a private dental office or other dental/medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for four (4) – six (6) hours. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations. 

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
