Early Childhood Care & Education Instructor
Savannah Technical College seeks an Early Childhood Care and Education Instructor to provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to become employed in a childcare field. This position is based at the Liberty campus and reports to the Savannah Technical Early Childhood Care and Education Department Head.
Job Duties
- Develops program and course syllabi, lesson plans, goals and objectives.
- Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
- Possess the ability to teach all phases of the curriculum.
- Requests and maintains supplies and equipment.
- Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate.
- Maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development trainings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the classroom/training area.
- Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting student progress.
- Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure.
- Demonstrates trustworthiness and strong work ethics.
- Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.
Duties include a flexible schedule of lecture, student advisement and registration. Successful candidate must be willing to work split teaching shifts that might require split teaching days.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education with a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related area/field of study with 18 graduate hours in ECE.
- Three (3) years of paid work experience. Teaching and/or leadership experience in Early Childhood Education.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills
- Work experience with children in a childcare setting, pre-kindergarten, and/or kindergarten through third grade setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of course-management systems such as Blackboard.
- Excellence in engagement strategies in teaching and curriculum design (online and/or onsite).
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- A sound understanding of and passion of subject matter. A growth mindset and excellent networking abilities.
Physical Demands:
Responsibilities are typically performed in an office or classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing and pulling for up to three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts or moves objects up to 25LBS. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
