ESL Instructor/Assistant Coordinator
Savannah Technical College is seeking an ESL Instructor/Assistant Coordinator. This position is responsible for the teaching and assisting to manage the ESOL program and will report to the Dean of Adult Education. Under minimal supervision, establishes ESOL programs for area individuals and employers at multiple site locations. Plans and organizes the ESOL work to meet the college's goals. Administers instructional services for ESOL students. Promotes the ESOL Program to public and private organizations throughout the Service Area (SDA), consisting of Effingham, Chatham, Bryan, and Liberty Counties. Oversees the administration of assessment and student placement tests for ESOL students. Represents the department at various internal and external meetings. Maintains or oversees the maintenance of student records.
Responsibilities (this list is not intended to be exhaustive):
- Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction and obtains or prepares instructional materials for classrooms use
- Provides learner guidance to students
- Evaluates students' ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives
- Promotes the adult education program to public and private organizations through the Service Delivery Area of the college
- Participates in EAGLE competition
- Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports
- Plans, organizes and participates in staff development and team conferences
- Maintains a secure classroom environment
- Recruits, supervise and directs classroom volunteers. Coordinates schedule for teacher substitutes and volunteers
- Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts
- Assist ESOL program coordinator
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's in related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communications skills, marketing ability, program planning experience, and outstanding management skills.
- Background/work experience including knowledge of adult learning techniques and the delivery of educational services to an adult population.
Physical Demands:
The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various setting.
