Senior Network Engineer

Information Technology
Road and Tollway Authority, State - SRTA

Under broad supervision, the Senior Network Engineer uses strong technical skills to provide support, installation, and configuration of network equipment. Recommends equipment improvement or replacement.  Serves as subject matter expert in assigned area. Incumbents typically work on one or more projects of high complexity within areas of expertise.  Reports directly to Infrastructure Manager.



Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

Skills and Competences

  • Advanced understanding of Windows Server Infrastructure.
  • Review ongoing systems security and ensure compliance with Patch Management.
  • Experience with Azure AD Connect and sync objects from On-prem AD to Azure AD
  • Strong PowerShell Scripting.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks both independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of hybrid Active Directory environment and Microsoft 365 third-party integrations.
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Windows Deployment Services.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Professional demeanor, strong interpersonal customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.



Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND six (6) years of related experience OR an Associate's/Technical degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND seven (7) years of related experience OR nine (9) years of related experience OR two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Network Engineer 2 (ITP101) or position equivalent.  Note: An equivalent combination of education and job-specific experience that provides the knowledge, experience, and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-by-year basis.  Problem solver with strong critical thinking and analytical skills.  Available to work occasional after-hours support for infrastructure outages and/or upgrades.  A team player who is also self-motivated and able to work independently.  Must possess SRTA’s core values of Integrity, Collaboration, Customer Focus, Diversity, and Innovation.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of routers, firewalls, and network protocols (Minimum 7 years).
  • Configure and support WAN and Internet circuits and virtual private network connections (VPN) (Minimum 7 years).
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and operation of network infrastructure projects and Network Management System(s).
  • Support network authentication, remote access, and cloud-connectivity (Azure).
  • Document all changes to system settings and configurations.
  • Monitor the network for uptime, utilization, latency, and overall health.
  • Support wireless network Infrastructure.
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with IT team members.
  • Create technical documentation on system designs.
  • Review ongoing network security and identify potential risks.
  • Serve as an escalation point for junior staff and plays as a key resource for problem determination and resolution for other IT teams throughout the agency.
  • Create and maintain virtual networks and VPN gateways to mediate access to cloud environments and remote sites.
  • Must display attention to detail to ensure that all systems function properly.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Ensure the uptime, performance, resource availability, and security of the networks are managed within operational guidelines.
Associate Degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or similar discipline from an accredited college or university AND Four years of relevant work experience as a network engineer or administrator OR Two years at the lower level Network Engineer 2 (ITP101).
