Teacher (Blind/Deaf)
Job Duties
Provides comprehensive standards based instruction to students who are deaf/hard of hearing; responsibilities include assessing and documenting students' communication skills, reading/math skills, independent living skills, and educational/behavioral development; identifying appropriate individualized educational goals; developing and implementing instructional lesson plans; maintaining documentation of student progress; and utilizing appropriate instructional techniques based on individual student needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the area of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
• Possesses or is eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the grade or content area of the prospective position
• Three years of experience teaching deaf/hard of hearing students
• ASL proficiency at 3+ or above as measured by the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI)
Salary/Benefits:
Paid on the Georgia Teacher Salary Schedule based on teaching certification and creditable years of experience. This is a 10-month position paid on a 12-month basis.
