OVERVIEW

DBHDD operates state hospitals and provides for community-based services across the state through contracted providers. The department serves people living with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, our primary responsibility is to serve people who are uninsured. We also serve individuals on Medicaid and others with few resources or options.

Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Forensic Psychiatrist at Georgia Regional Hospital – Atlanta, located in Decatur, Georgia. 

Job Description

 

Treat inpatient forensic patients; conduct clinical assessments; prescribe medication; handle medical emergencies; document progress notes; develop treatment plans and transition planning; develop after-discharge care plans; participate in competency evaluations and court testimony as needed; and prepare and submit case reports or summaries to government or mental health agencies.

Requires a Doctor of Medicine degree, completion of a Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship, and a Medical License from the State of Georgia. Pre-employment processing for this position requires drug testing and passing background checks.
