Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Georgia Department of - DBHDD

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and hospital services.

 

The main office for DBHDD is located in downtown Atlanta.  

 

This position is located at:  Georgia Regional Hospital – Atlanta (GRHA)

Located on 174 Acres in DeKalb County, Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta operates 300 licensed, accredited inpatient beds in three major program areas: Adult Mental Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, GRH/Atlanta also offers inpatient and outpatient Dental Services.

 

Job Description

 

Job Title:   Internal Medicine Physician - Board Eligible or Board Certified – Admissions - Full Time - GRHA

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions and providing treatments.  Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients. 

 

·     May supervise staff

·     Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary

·     Advises patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention

·     Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and other health care providers

·     Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff

·     Examines patients and take their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures and consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients’ physical and mental health

·     Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury

·     Provides emergency medical care

 

Qualifications 

·    Medical degree recognized by the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) AND licensure or license-eligible to practice medicine at a state institution or in the state of Georgia as provided by state law.  Physician must be Board Eligible.

 

·    FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE BACKGROUND CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.

 

Preferred qualifications

·     Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

·     Experience in treating persons with serious and persistent medical illnesses, and in providing care as leader and member of an interdisciplinary treatment team

·     Experience working with consumers in adult mental health, addictive disease, and forensic psychiatry
