Job Summary:
Under broad supervision, the HVAC Technician II assists in coordinating the engineering, maintenance, renovation, and construction of facilities. Performs journeyman level heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs and installations. Maintains compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Performs work in other maintenance specialties, such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems. May serve as project leader, lead worker or trade systems expert. Position requires 24-hour on-call availability. The incumbent also performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of related experience; OR
Four (4) years of related experience; OR
One (1) year of experience at the lower level Fac Maintenance Engineer 2 (FEP041) or position equivalent.
Note: Three (3) years of related experience and a technical college or trade school HVAC certification will be considered as meeting this minimum qualification.


Essential Functions:
•Performs general maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment.
•Performs basic and skilled painting, carpentry, and roofing tasks as needed.
•Assist in renovations or building additions to existing facilities.
•Assembles, installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment related to HVAC systems and components.
•Repairs and performs maintenance on plumbing fixtures, lighting, air vents and air conditioning units and facilities as needed.
•Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that HVAC equipment operate smoothly and efficiently.
•Installs, maintains, evaluates and repairs any components of the HVAC systems.
•Reads, utilizes blueprints, plans, drawings, schematics, and sketches to determine the work to be performed and resources required.
•Utilizes safety equipment and observes all safety practices and regulations.
•Handles hazardous materials according to laws and regulations.
•Operates trade related tools and equipment; maintains/assists an accurate inventory of all materials, equipment, and tools related to the HVAC systems.


Job Competencies: Considerable knowledge of procedures, tools and equipment used in the HVAC trade. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to read plans, blueprints, sketches, and schematics. Ability to accurately determine work to be performed and resources required. Ability to lift, push, pull and carry heavy items. Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience OR Four years of related experience OR One year of experience at the lower level Fac Maintenance Engineer 2 (FEP041) or position equivalent.
