Veterans Service, Georgia Department of - GDVS

Under general supervision and guidance, the Cemetery Technician performs various tasks requiring mainly manual skills and physical strength. Conducts burial operations to include preparing gravesites for use, handling caskets and urns for placement, closing gravesites, and finishing the area to provide a safe and pleasing appearance for the family and visitors. Accurately placing the remains and marking the gravesite as directed.. Operates outdoor power equipment (lawnmowers, trimmers, edges, etc.), utility vehicles, hand and power tools, and other equipment needed for operations.. Heavy equipment, tractors, dump vehicles, trucks/vans/other vehicles, and other equipment (specialized, construction-type, etc.) may also be operated.. Install outer burial containers.. Installs, restores, and resets headstones, markers, memorials, and monuments per work instructions to maintain accuracy and alignment. Maintains and cleans headstones, markers, memorials, and monuments.. Perform general and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including refueling, changing oil, lubricating parts, and making minor adjustments or repairs.. Perform general maintenance on buildings, including minor repairs, cleaning, and other tasks.. Respond to and complete requests for service/work orders and follow work instructions, while maintaining any records needed to document performed work and tasks.. Works with cleaning fluids and agents, chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides, (insecticides, herbicides & others) using standard protective equipment for application and use..Assists with burial services and cemetery ceremonials, including traffic and crowd control, setting up event sites, and other event-required functions.. Ability to perform tasks without more than regular supervision. Able to work in inclement weather conditions. Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to do frequent standing, bending, stooping, and sitting while performing work tasks and operating equipment.. Perform landscaping duties, including but not limited to mowing, trimming, and edging turf areas. Trimming shrubs, pruning trees, and clearing debris from trees and other plants. Maintaining flowerbeds, including weeding, pruning, and mulching.

Must have a valid driver's license and pass a random drug screening.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND six months of general labor work experience. Subject to random urinalysis. Must have a valid driver’s license.
