Job Description:

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Adjunct Instructor (Adult Education) position, in the Academic and Student Affairs division.  This position is located on Atlanta Tech's main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta. 


Under general supervision, the Adjunct Instructor (Adult Education) will be responsible for instructing and supervising students in Continuing and Adult Education courses. 

 Duties and responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Identify student goals based on individual pre-assessments;
  • Teach Adult Education classes that consists of Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, and/or Language Skills;
  • Deliver effective Adult Education instruction based on Standards-Based instruction, utilizing lesson plans and individual student learning plans;
  • Plan, develop and implement lessons that require the use of higher order thinking skills;
  • Evaluate students' ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives;
  • Develop individualized student education plans for each participant and prepare students for post-testing;
  • Submit student attendance daily;
  • Monitor student data weekly;
  • Promote the Adult Education program to public and private organizations through the Service Delivery Area of the college;
  • Participate in EAGLE competition;
  • Prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports;
  • Plan, organize and participate in staff development and team conferences;
  • Maintain a secure classroom environment;
  • Demonstrate teamwork, customer service and organizational commitment;
  • Assist with recruitment and retention activities;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current practices in teaching field and/or related fields;
  • Follow and enforce rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution.
  • Perform other duties as requested.


Minimum Requirements:

Must possess and demonstrate a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution AND one (1) year of experience in Adult Education, experience in customer service, digital literacy, distance learning, computer skills and data review; knowledge of TABE assessment and high school equivalency credentials; experience in problem solving and devising individual student plans.  Must also possess and demonstrate strong organizational, multi-tasking and follow-through skills.  Must possess and demonstrate prior experience teaching diverse and adult populations.  Must be able to instruct students and handle administrative responsibilities related to the position.  Must be willing to work day, evenings and/or weekends.


Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, preference may be given to candidates that possess and demonstrate three (3) or more years of teaching/training experience in Adult Education. Must also possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and leadership skills.  


May be required to teach at other locations and other locations within the community.
