Savannah Technical College is seeking a Part Time/Adjunct Dental Assisting instructor.  The part time/adjunct faculty member will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to become employed in the profession of Dental Assisting. Characteristic duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


• Provide professional instruction based on approved course syllabus. Ensure that desired course outcomes meet the stated      objectives;
• Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and/or clinicals using appropriate              teaching methods;
• Prepare lesson plans, curriculum, and syllabus for coursework taught. Follows approved course syllabus;
• Evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives by means of appropriate testing and/or evaluation methods;
• Administer and grades class examinations;
• Maintain records of student attendance and grades;
• Attend in-service training, workshops and seminars, as needed;
• Maintain program certification requirements;
• Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training areas;
• Monitor students’ use of supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Assist with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts;
• Meet with students, staff members, supervisors, as needed; and
• Demonstrate the effective use of oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate knowledge of current procedures in the Dental Assisting field.
• Observe and enforces the institution’s policies and regulations.
• Communicate and interact professionally, with college employees, students, and visitors, utilizing excellent organizational        and customer service skills.
• Maintain qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual.
• Follow rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia and other policies and procedures        established by the Savannah Technical College.
• Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• For didactic instructors: Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a postsecondary institution accredited by an organization      recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or both.
• For laboratory, preclinical and clinical instructors: current Certified Dental Assistant credential from the Dental Assisting            National Board.
• For all didactic, laboratory, preclinical, and clinical instructors:
• Two years of occupational experience in the field of the program being taught (dental assisting), of which at least one year        shall be within the last five years; (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of
  post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years), or an equivalent                combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable knowledge may be acquired.
• Flexible to teach day or evening classes.
• Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
• Valid driver’s license and required insurability.
• Basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, word; excel; power point; and email.

 

Preferred Qualifications (In addition to Minimum Qualifications):

• Bachelor’s Degree in a health care related field from a postsecondary institution accredited by an organization recognized        by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or both.
• Graduated from a CODA approved Dental Assisting education program.
• Background in educational theory and methodology.

 

Physical Demands
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time.  The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10lbs. or less.  Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for seven (7) – eight (8) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) – four (4) hours; and occasionally lift 50lbs. to 75lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.

 

Salary/Benefits 
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Benefits package.
