Savannah Technical College is seeing an Administrative Assistant I for the Academic Affairs Division. The primary location for this position will be the Savannah Technical College White Bluff Campus. Under close to general supervision and according to detailed instructions, receives, screens, and directs telephone calls and visitors; performs general clerical responsibilities; periodic reports; maintains files; and displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Qualifications
- Operates a multi-line telephone console in order to relay incoming and outgoing calls.
- Greets office visitors and clients. Determines the nature of their business and provides appropriate information or directs visitor to other personnel.
- Uses sound judgment and knowledge of organization/departmental policies, procedures and operations to respond to routine questions.
- Directs non-routine requests to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Schedules and arranges meeting logistics for staff.
- Arranges necessary facilities and equipment for meetings and appointments.
- Performs general clerical responsibilities. Responds to requests for information and assistance.
- Uses discretion to maintain confidentiality of records, files and other documentation.
- Types letters, memos and other documents according to applicable formats, guidelines and procedures and maintains files accordingly.
- Distributes mail to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Correctly performs other routine clerical functions, as assigned.
- Performs a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within
- the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.
- Demonstrates eagerness to learn and assume responsibility; seeks out and accepts increased responsibility; displays a "can do" approach to work.
- Shows persistence and seeks alternatives when obstacles arise; seeks alternative solutions; does things before being asked or forced to by events.

- Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected; calls in according to policy when arriving late for work or when absent.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least two (2)years of experience performing in a business field.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in the use of the Internet, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Valid driver's license and insurability required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience in an educational or business setting;
- Experience in using the Banner student records management system;
- Excellent customer service, clerical, and technological skills.
Physical Demands
Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, or pulling in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight up to 50 pounds. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes. The employee regularly interacts with students, employees, and the general public.
Salary/Benefits
Target salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
