This position is located within the Agricultural Inputs Division of the GDA.

 

·       The Ag Inputs Division is composed of seven regulatory programs: feed, fertilizer, horticultural growing media, lime, pesticides, seed, and soil amendments.

 

·       Each program has specific rules and regulations to follow.

 

·       The Ag Inputs Division employs inspectors, who conduct inspections of facilities holding, manufacturing, and distributing products under this scope as well as collect samples of these products analyzed for quality and safety.

 

·       The Animal Feed Program enforces rules and regulations governing animal feed and administers all state and federal regulations related to animal feed products.

 

·       All Ag Inputs Division inspectors must complete advanced training in various specialized operations.

 

 

 

Job Summary:

This position is assigned to the following counties: 

·       Turner

·       Irwin

·       Tift

·       Coffee

·       Jeff Davis

·       Bacon

·       Cook

·       Berrien

·       Atkinson

·       Ware

·       Pierce

·       Brooks

·       Lowndes

·       Lanier

·       Echols

·       Clinch

·       Charlton

 

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Under direct supervision, learns to inspect animal feed facilities and processing equipment to ensure compliance with regulations and laws governing health, quality, and safety.

·       Assists with the collection of samples and routes to the laboratory for identification and analysis.

·       Assists with inspections to detect compliance.

·       Learned to advise the industry of development programs or new equipment and techniques to aid in quality production, applying agricultural knowledge.

·       Learned to examine commodities to certify wholesomeness and compliance.

·       Learns to inspect facilities and equipment for accuracy, sanitation, and compliance regulations.

·       Learns to write technical reports of findings and recommendations.

 

 

Physical Demands:

·       Standing for long periods

·       Intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving

·       Exposure to outdoor elements for extended periods

·       Exposure to different temperatures

·       Exposure to loud sounds

·       Long travel days

·       Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

 

Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

Vocational/Technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited college OR High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in the area of assignment OR Two years of college, which included 12 semester hours or 20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences

 Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

·       Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
