Associate of Science Nursing Instructor
Savannah Technical College is seeking a 12-month full-time faculty member for the Associate of Science in Nursing program. Under general supervision, this position develops instructional materials such as lesson plans, syllabi, learning outcomes, exams, and other program planning and evaluation materials for the Associate of Science in Nursing program courses. This position also participates in the annual planning and budgeting process and develops an appropriate staff development plan to maintain knowledge and skills for courses being taught, prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports, and assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Develop, manage, and teach classes, delivering instruction both individually and as a member of a team;
• Utilizing Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and Georgia Board of Nursing approved program standards, develops instructional materials such as lesson plans, syllabi, learning outcomes, exams and other program planning and evaluation materials for the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program credited and occupational courses;
• Advise and register pre-program and program students; Provides student advisement in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner.
• Develop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requested;
• Prepare a grading process to accurately assess students' progress in program. Communicates progress to students and maintains student records according to established guidelines.
• Utilize an approved work ethic model for teaching, marketing, and evaluating employability skills and provide a formal system for feedback to students for exceptional or unacceptable behavior exhibited in the classroom and lab.
• Evaluate effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveys;
• Ensure all safety and security requirements are met in the Associate of Science in Nursing Program. Plan and implement a Lab Management and Safety Plan as required by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG).
• Complete reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and agencies;
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies;
• Participate in advisory committees for the department, as well as other College committees and meetings;
• Collaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areas;
• Initiate and facilitate student activities for ASN students;
• Assist with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts;
• Assist with cataloging and ordering equipment and supplies; assist with developing the annual ASN budget;
• Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
• Maintains all program certification and accreditation requirements as needed.
• Follow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College, to include standards for student-faculty professional relationships/interaction;
• Communicate effectively both in oral and written communication;
• Perform basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, word; excel; power point; and email;
• Utilize excellent organizational and customer service skills to work professionally with Savannah Tech employees, students, and visitors;
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Hold a current Georgia license in good standing from the initial date of employment as a registered professional nurse;
• Have a minimum of three years of registered nursing practice within the preceding 7 years;
• Must possess a Master's of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Must possess current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid.
• Must possess valid driver's license and required insurability.
• Must possess skill in oral and written communication.
• Must possess basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, word; excel; power point; and email.
• Must be flexible to teach day or evening classes and 12-hour clinical rotations on weekdays and/or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Three years teaching experience in a registered nursing program.
• Experience utilizing a Learning Management System {LMS); experience with the Blackboard LMS platform.
Physical Demands
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10lbs. or less. Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for seven (7) – eight (8) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) – four (4) hours; and occasionally lift 50lbs. to 75lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.
