Alternate Public Defender (Atlanta/Stone Mountain): Assistant Public Defenders III, IV


The Alternate Public Defender (Atlanta/Stone Mountain) Office is seeking to hire  Assistant Public Defenders (III, IV) in the Fulton and Dekalb county offices.  The primary responsibilities include representing indigent clients with a criminal case(s) in both Superior and Juvenile Courts from arrest to trial and appeal if necessary.  Applicants must have the required skills to perform the responsibilities for the position.   Applicants should be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or be waiting on the Georgia Bar exam results.   Interviews will be scheduled expeditiously.

Description of Duties:  The Assistant Public Defenders (III, IV) will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients. These positions perform beginner to advanced professional legal work and may assist in cases of routine complexity.  To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia.  Performs other related duties as required.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Three years of relevant legal experience OR Three years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 3 (LEP022)
