Job Summary

                                                                                                                             

Provide custodial assistance and general maintenance for the WGTC Lagrange Conference Center as prescribed by the Conference Center Manager.

 

Essential Functions

 

·         Custodial Duties: Ensures spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces; Sweeping and mopping floors, and vacuuming carpets; Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks, and restocking disposables daily.

·         Maintenance Duties: Maintains proper care of a conference center and facilities by providing minor general maintenance. Duties to include but not limited to painting, replacing ceiling tiles, replacing light bulbs, hanging pipe and drape, moving the stage, moving furniture, setting up chairs, tables, lights and podiums for special events and college functions.

  • Distributes and maintains materials, tools, and equipment.

(5%)

  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

·         Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance

·         Knowledge of safety policies and procedures

·         Knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC system maintenance and repair

·         Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs

·         Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public

·         Oral and written communication skills

·         Ability to lift, push and carry heavy items

·         Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications and blueprints

·         Knowledge of custodial tools and methods

·         Knowledge of safety guidelines

·         Knowledge of college policies and procedures

·         Skill in the use of cleaning tools and supplies

 

Work Environment

Most Conference Center Maintenance Technicians work indoors. However, some work outdoors part of the time, sweeping walkways, taking out trash, and watering plants. Because office buildings often are cleaned while they are empty, many cleaners work evening hours. The work can be physically demanding and sometimes dirty and unpleasant.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job the work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting. Conference Center Maintenance Technicians spend most of the day walking, standing, or bending while cleaning. Sometimes they must move or lift heavy supplies and equipment. As a result, the work may be strenuous on the back, arms, and legs.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position (29 hour), located on the Lagrange Callaway Conference Center and requires flexible hours of availability including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday 8 am to 2:30 pm and Friday 8 am to 12 pm. Times, days of the week, and location will vary based on the needs of the Conference Center and the College. This position occasionally requires longer hours. Scheduled hours are dependent on the events booked at the Callaway Conference Center.

 

Travel

Travel to other campus locations is required, as needed.

 

Required Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance

 

Preferred Education and Experience

·         6 months experience performing custodial duties;

·         Ability to safely lift, move and carry up to 40 lbs.;

·         Prior experience in event set-up;
