The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospital services.
Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, provides data management support to assigned mental health hospital operated by DBHDD. Routinely monitors data within a multi component electronic medical record (EMR) system for completeness and compliance with various policies and regulations. Prepares and submits hospital data to internal and external recipients. Provides high level support for various projects, implementations of procedures, and usage of EMR. Exercises various latitudes of independent judgement. Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned DBHDD Hospital in areas of Data Reporting.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
· Gather requirements; compile data; prepare and analyze results; distribute reports.
· Perform analysis to understand user requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
· Query and combine data from a variety of sources for use in reporting, research and to support decision-making.
· Prepare tables, charts, graphs or spreadsheets in a clear, concise and easy to understand manner for inclusion in reports and presentations as needed.
· Ensure data integrity; develop and produce reports utilized in measuring data accuracy.
· Troubleshoot data issues, validate result sets, recommend and implement process improvements.
· Improve performance and value of existing reports and tools; design and support production of new reporting processes.
Technical Skills:
· Experience in data analysis and report design/development.
· Use of Business Intelligence reporting software (MS Excel, Crystal Reports, MS Power BI, etc).
o MS Excel – creating graphs, formulas, and functions, retrieving/importing data from other sources, exporting data to other tools
o Crystal Reports/Business Intelligence – Report design, connecting to databases, joining tables, filtering data
· Familiarity with Healthcare Coding Structures (DSM, ICD, CPT, HCPS)
Required qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND two years of related experience. Note: AN equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
Preferred qualifications:
· Experience working with Electronic Medical Records or other data types covered by HIPAA Regulations.
· Experience working in a hospital environment.
