Savannah Technical College is seeking a Dean of Adult Education. This full-time, exempt position is responsible for the Adult Education program and will report to the Vice President of Economic Development.  Under minimal supervision, establishes adult education programs for area individuals and employers at multiple site locations.  Plans and organizes that unit's work to meet the college's goals.  Administers instructional services for Adult Education students.  Promotes the Adult Education Program to public and private organizations throughout the Service Area (SDA), consisting of Effingham, Chatham, Bryan, and Liberty Counties.  Reviews and approves the request for supplies and materials.  Prepares the specifications and budget for the program.  Oversees the administration of assessment and student placement tests for Adult Education students.  Represents the department at various internal and external meetings.  Maintains or oversees the maintenance of student records.  Supervises subordinate employees.  Creates and maintains a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation.

Responsibilities (this list is not intended to be exhaustive):

  • Establish and supervises adult education programs
  • Prepares grant applications
  • Manages and oversees financial/budget operations of the department
  • Monitors the activities of personnel to ensure compliance with TCSG policy manual and department procedures
  • Develops and/or assists with the development of policies and procedures and recommends changes to effectively meet the goals and requirements of the program
  • Maintains knowledge of assigned program areas and gives updates the management on services, operations, and projects
  • Evaluates employees at scheduled intervals upon reviewing of all relevant information
  • Conducts regular evaluation of services provided and adjusts as needed
  • Supervises the development and implementation of instructional services, including student intake and assessment, curriculum implementation, and student education plans
  • Promotes the adult education program to public and private organizations
  • Organizes advisory committees

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in education, business administration, or a closely related field
  • Three years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education (or in a related field)
  • Excellent communication skills, marketing ability, program planning experience, and outstanding management skills
  • Background/work experience including knowledge of adult learning techniques and the delivery of educational services to an adult population
  • Prior supervisor experience and/or a background in financial management to include budget development and oversight responsibilities and contracts administration

Physical Demands

Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, and walking.  The employee frequently bends, lifts and carries lightweight objects up to 25 pounds.  Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.

Salary/Benefits

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.  Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.

Bachelor's degree required in a course of study related to the occupational field *and* Three (3) years of related work experience.
