Summary/Objective: 

Under broad supervision, the family liaison will assist in outreach with special education teachers, transition coordinators, families involved in project, and project partners on Pre-Employment Transition Services and the partnership of vocational services. The family liaison will assist in educating all stakeholders on the partnership of local schools, CILs, and vocational rehab services.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide education and engagement to parents and families to increase their understanding of the importance of early career planning and services available for students with disabilities
  • Assist in recruiting, securing, and retaining students/youth participation by connecting with Educator Liaisons for CILs and LEAs
  • Develop, build, and maintain strong partnerships between families, CILs, and DIF employees
  • Enhance communication and engagement between CILs and families across the state of GA
  • Active participant and contributor in DIF model strategic planning and continuous improvement
  • Consistantly provide parent outreach and personal contact for all families involved in the program across the state of GA
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate a Parent Advisory Stakeholder Committee to gain parent input on program implementation, progress, and continuous improvement ideas from parents of participating students/youth across the state of GA
  • Develop professional learning and deliver monthly/bimonthly PL to parents and families to increase their knowledge of topics such as VR, GVRA, RWS, CIE (SSI), college (transition and career building), RWS week long summer experience, and other parental topics of interest based on parental survey data
  • Develop all parent surveys, in conjunction with other members of the DIF team, to obtain parental input and determine pre-program needs, end of program reflection, and parental PL topic interests
  • Weekly parent newsletter dissemination for the 8 week programs and how parents can help at home with the skills being taught through the DIF program
  • Develop communication with parents on how families and students/youth can connect to CILs in their community and what the CILs offer families and students
  • Support parents and student in understanding next steps from high school to college, trade school, workforce, and RWS
  • Coordinate with each CIL and Educator Liaison to determine family needs for student success
  • Develop a digital platform to communicate with parents, CILs, and Educator Liaisons
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the program manager/coordinator to report what is going well, barriers, and next steps
  • Assist in outreach to parents in the coordination of RWS summer programming for all students
  • Maintain student information and enrollment in the program
  • Maintain all parent communications and complete required records and document in a timely manner
  • Travel to implementation sites and partnering CIL sites as needed
  • Perform other duties that support the engagement of parents to fufill the mission of the DIF grant, as assigned

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Working Conditions:

Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high-volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Reasonable accommodation can be made available to qualified individuals upon request.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.

 

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, pre-employment testing, and additional checks required for your job.

Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Six years of related experience.
