Financial Aid Technical Specialist (Savannah Campus)

Under general to limited supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for:

  • Serving as lead point of contact in the administration of financial services
  • Providing counseling services to potential students and students seeking financial aid funding options with regard to attending Savannah Technical College
  • Guiding students through the financial aid application process
  • Reviewing, evaluating, and performing verification of student records to determine eligibility for federal student aid
  • Requesting additional information for incomplete or inconsistent applications, as to perform accurate needs analysis
  • Electronically correcting of student applications via FAA access
  • Monitoring satisfactory academic progress
  • Maintaining and updating student financial aid records
  • Remaining current with regard to student financial assistance programs and laws governing such;
  • Displaying a high level of effort and commitment to performing work
  • Operating effectively within the division and college organizational structure
  • Demonstrating trustworthiness and responsible behavior
  • Performing other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree *and* three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Note:  Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications (in addition to minimum)

  • A bachelor’s degree from a accredited college or university, with emphasis in business, education, or a related field.
  • One year of work experience in education, business, or a financial aid office.   
  • Preference will be given to applicants with Banner Financial Aid experience, SURFER and/or NSLDS experience. 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.

 

Physical Demands
The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.

 

Salary/Benefits
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.  Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
