Maintenance Supervisor
Savannah Technical College seeks an experienced individual to serve as a Maintenance Supervisor. The position provides direction in the planning and/or execution of the operation, maintenance, repair, replacement, and regulatory compliance of all types of mechanical systems, including boiler management, generators, fire and life safety (sprinklers, fire alarms, fire pumps), switchgear low/high voltage, utility location, and elevator management. The position supervises personnel and performs maintenance and repair of college buildings and grounds. Work supervised involves the application of multiple craft disciplines, which can cause electrical, mechanical, and structural, as well as general maintenance upkeep activity. This position will interact on a consistent basis with Operations and Maintenance management, staff, contractors, vendors, and customers.
Required competencies
- Technical Knowledge - Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance. Ability to diagnose maintenance and repair problems.
- Computer skills - Knowledge of MS Word and job-related software programs
- Communication skills - Oral and written skills. Motivates and engages employees through effective communication.
- Project Management - Coordinates and manages facilities, equipment, supplies and related resources as necessary for the project; monitors environmental risks, if any and quality control.
- Human Resources Management - Hires, develops, counsels, disciplines, and evaluates performance of employees.
- Leading Work Teams - Establishes expectations and clear direction and expectations to meet goals and objective of ongoing work.
- Safety and Health Management - Establishes a culture of safety for employees and ensures that work processes are free from safety and health hazards, that employees are property trained, and that programs are in place to ensure safety.
- Financial Management - Plans and monitors the use of expenditures to meet organizational objectives and compliance
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction plans, specifications and blueprints.
- Customer Service - Ability to relate with customers resolving problems.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent "and" three (3) years' related experience
- Valid driver's license and proof of insurability
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience in a large-scale maintenance facility in a skilled trade (electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC) or building maintenance
Physical Demands
- This work requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, crouching, climbing ladders, and lifting objects over 50 pounds. A high degree of dexterity is required to use tools and equipment. The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to heat, cold, or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The ability to distinguish between shades of color when working with electrical wiring is required.

- Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
