Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Medical Director, Paramedicine (Part-Time) position in the Health & Public Safety Technology department in the Academic & Student Affairs division.  This position is located on Atlanta Technical College’s main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta   

The Medical Director will perform an integral part in the overall operation and advisement of the Medical Director of the Public Safety Technology Emergency Medical Services Programs Educational process. The Medical Director of the Public Safety Technology Emergency Medical Services Programs is a non-administrative position, serving as an instructional leader and advisor of the programs. While the Medical Director works cooperatively with the Program Director, the Medical Director is an independent contractor who does not report directly to anyone. The Medical Director shall be compensated as agreed upon between the parties.

 

The Medical Director provides medical and instructional leadership in all phases of the Public Safety Technology Emergency Medical Services Programs and acts as a liaison between the medical directors of the various hospital and field internship affiliates and the Program. As set forth in this Agreement, the Clinic shall provide the following Director Services as Director of the EMS and Paramedicine Programs.

 

Scope of Duties for EMS/Paramedicine Programs at ATC:

1.     EMS Related Diploma Programs at ATC.

2.     Provide direct student instruction in the classroom.

3.     Advise Faculty on medical content accuracy.

4.     Review and approval of the educational content of the program curriculum and the quality of medical instruction and supervision delivered by the faculty.

5.     Review and approve the medical content of all formatives, summative and capstone written examinations, scripted scenarios, and oral assessments.

6.     Provide recommendations on clinical instruction and clinical practice.

7.     Review curriculum and instructional materials in conjunction with the Program Director.

8.     Participate in final summative and capstone practical exercises with all students prior to the national board exams.

9.     Assist Faculty in evaluation of student clinical competencies and experiences.

10.  Assist Program Director with assurances of a quality program.

11.  Serve as Program Advisory Committee Chairperson and attend bi-annual meetings.

12.  Attend, when possible, program faculty meetings.

13.  Participate in classroom presentations and lectures, instructing as needed

14.  Participate in the student assessment (Formative and Summative).

15.  Provide feedback to students to support student learning.

16.  Serve as Medical Director for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) and National Registry Examinations.

17.  Provide coordination and liaison with the physician community as needed.

18.  Periodically review each student's performance to assure adequate progress toward completion of the program. This may include student video reflection, student peer to peer review and online documentation /performance assessment.

19.  In cooperation with the Program Director certify that each graduating student has achieved the desired level of competence prior to graduation.

20.  Complete all required portions of state and national paperwork.

21.  Work with the Program Director to assure that the program has appropriate and up-to­ date equipment and supplies.

22.  Schedule regular hours on campus for the purpose of course content review and approval.

23.  Each week, unless agreed upon by the Program Director, the Medical Director will engage in a minimum of 8 hours of administrative, clinical and or instructional support for ATC EMS programs. A total of 32 hours of program engagement to support the program.

24.  Work with the Program Director to affirm that the Program has acceptable and current equipment and supplies.”

25.  Adhere to the accreditation standards for CoAEMSP. CAAHEP Standard III.B.2. Outlines the program Medical Director (MD) responsibilities required to support accreditation. Medical Director ensure that they are current on all state and national accreditation standards related to the program administration.

26.  Assist and provide medical oversight during the “EMS Program Review” and “Student File Review” process.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

  • Licensed Medical Physician in Emergency Medicine.
  • Licensed in the state of Georgia and in good standing.
  • Three (3) years as a clinical physician in the field.
  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Experience and knowledge in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), and Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC).

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:

  • Five (5) or more years as a clinical physician in the field.
