Part Time Instructional Design Specialist (Grant Funded)
Savannah Technical College is seeking an individual to serve as Instructional Design Specialist. This position is grant funded, by the Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grant. Under general to limited supervision of the Executive Director, this individual will be responsible for the analysis, design, development, and implementation of instructional content, typically in a distance education environment. This position will be based at the Crossroads Campus, but may require routine travel within the service delivery area of Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty Counties. Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following (this list is not intended to be exhaustive):
- Works with subject matter experts (SME’s) to design, develop, and implement distance education and blended course content;
- Establishes methods and procedures for transferring in-seat course materials/requirements into a distance education format;
- Collaborates with SME’s to create supplemental multimedia content integration into distance education courses;
- Designs and/or conducts training for faculty and staff on best practices for distance education course delivery and the use of blended approaches utilizing on-campus and distance education delivery methods;
- Serves as the training expert in the use of Learning Management Systems;
- Works with faculty and staff, assists in development of multimedia-web based content such as images, photos, audio, and/or video;
- Works closely with Information Technology staff to ensure distance education technology is adequately supported and functioning properly;
- Keeps abreast of changes in the Instructional Technology/Design field by attending conferences and training as budget and schedule permits; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- An Associate’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university in Education, Technology, Business, or related field. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- At least three years’ of full-time paid work experience in business, industry, education or military environments.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university in Education, Technology, Business, or related field.
- Full-time work experience as an instructor at a post-secondary institution.
- Prior experience in the development, administration, and evaluation of academic programs.
- Understanding of the mission and philosophy of technical education.
- Computer skills and ability to use common software programs, including, but not limited to BANNER, Blackboard, and Microsoft Office.
- The ability to implement technology into instruction.
Physical Demands
The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
