Savannah Technical College - STC

 Savannah Technical College is seeking a 12-month full-time faculty position for the Practical Nursing programs on the Savannah and Liberty Campuses. The individual will report to the Department Head for Practical Nursing and will be responsible for the program duties at the Liberty campus and clinical rotations at any location within the Savannah Technical College service delivery area. The Practical Nursing Instructor will be responsible for the following duties: 

  • Develop, manage, and teach classes, delivering instruction both individually and as a member of a team;
  • Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for practical nursing occupational courses;
  • Develop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requested;
  • Evaluate effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveys;
  • Assist with developing yearly practical nursing budget;
  • Complete reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and agencies;
  • Ensure compliance with Georgia Board of Nursing standards, rules regulations, and expectations;
  • Assist and attend with the practical nursing advisory committee for the department;
  • Participate in College committees and meetings;
  • Collaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areas;
  • Instructing students, developing program syllabi, goals, and objectives;
  • Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts;
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies;
  • Advise and register health sciences students;
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
  • Follow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College, to include standards for student-faculty professional relationships/interaction;
  • Must adhere to ANA standards of practice;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Current, unencumbered Georgia RN License in good standing.
  • Three (3) years of practice as a licensed registered nurse within the preceding seven (7) years.
  • Must possess strong clinical skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel; Banner proficiency preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Must possess valid driver's license and proof of insurability
  • Flexible to teach day or evening classes and 12 hour clinical rotations on weekdays and/or weekends including nights at any clinical facility in the college's service delivery area.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Must meet the Essential Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Experience utilizing a Learning Management System (LMS); experience with the Blackboard LMS platform preferred.
  • Experience in the development, administration, and evaluation of academic programs, to include curriculum development, instructional methodology, planning, evaluation, budgeting, supervision, and management.
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

Physical Demands

Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time.  The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10lbs. or less.  Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for seven (7) – eight (8) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) – four (4) hours; and occasionally lift 50lbs. to 75lbs. per rotation.   The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.  

 

Salary/Benefits

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.  Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Benefits package.
