Serving more than 10,000 credit and non-credit students annually, Savannah Tech offers nearly 150 different instructional programs in addition to Adult Education classes, industry-specific training and continuing education. Savannah Technical College - STC

Savannah Technical College is seeking a Maintenance Technician for the Facilities Department.  The primary location for this position will be the Savannah Technical College, White Bluff Campus.  The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college's facilities and grounds.

Essential Functions

  • Installs, maintains or repairs electrical systems and associated hardware
  • Installs, maintains, repairs and renovates plumbing hardware
  • Assists with renovation projects as assigned
  • Assists with carpentry projects
  • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles
  • Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including pressure washing, installing and maintaining parking lots
  • Uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials and equipment
  • Conducts routine inspections of premises and equipment, and troubleshoot equipment and systems (e.g. ventilation)
  • Performs preventative maintenance
  • Oversee contractors when professional repairs are necessary
  • Maintains required records and logs
  • Maintain fire alarms, sprinkler and security systems
  • Coordinates the work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed by supervisor
  • Responds to emergency request for repairs
  • Other duties as assigned

Competencies

  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and practices of building and grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC system maintenance and repair
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift, push and carry heavy items
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications and blueprints

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building
  • Must have a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

Related degree from a Technical college or two years working experience in a large-scale maintenance facility "or" five years' experience in a skilled trade which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform maintenance duties

Physical Demands

This work requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, crouching, climbing ladders, and lifting objects over 50 pounds.  A high degree of dexterity is required to use tools and equipment.  The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to heat, cold, or inclement weather.  The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.  The ability to distinguish between shades of color when working with electrical wiring is required.

Salary/Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.  Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
