Savannah Technical College serves Coastal Georgia with quality, market-driven technical education with campus locations in Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties. Serving more than 10,000 credit and non-credit students annually, Savannah Tech offers nearly 150 different instructional programs in addition to Adult Education classes, industry-specific training and continuing education. Student Affairs Specialist - Effingham Campus

Savannah Technical College is seeking a well-organized professional to serve as the Student Affairs Specialist. The Student Affairs Specialist is responsible for performing specialized duties in support of student affairs functions. This position will be based at the Effingham Campus, but may require travel to other Savannah Technical College campus locations.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Advises students during early registration, open registration, and drop/add periods;
  • Conducts information sessions for prospective students;
  • Interprets college transcripts and makes acceptance decisions;
  • Answers application processing questions for new students;
  • Process new student applications;
  • Makes recruitment visits to high schools, career fairs, etc.;
  • Answers community inquiries via telephone, email, and in person;
  • Assists faculty with student issues impacting registrations, advisement, and academics;
  • Assists with the annual college Job Fair;
  • Advises student groups; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned. 

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the mission and postsecondary technical education;
  • Knowledge of college programs of study;
  • Knowledge of financial aid requirements;
  • Knowledge of related state and federal regulations;
  • Knowledge of budget development and management principles; 
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software;
  • Oral and written communications skills;
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public;
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree *and* three (3) years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Public Administration or related field with a minimum of three years of student/customer service experience.
  • Banner experience.

Physical Demands

Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, and walking.  The employee frequently bends, lifts and carries lightweight objects up to 25 pounds.  Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.

Salary/Benefits

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.  Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
