A Settlement Staff Attorney must be a self-starter, with a positive outlook, who is detail oriented and enjoys working with a team. The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as excellent time management skills.

As a Settlement Staff Attorney for the Board, you are key to moving a claimant’s case forward to final settlement. A Settlement Staff Attorney reviews stipulated settlement agreements to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules and established agency guidelines.  They assist the division director in the development, review, interpretation, and/or implementation of policies and procedures regarding stipulated settlements and lump sum advances in workers’ compensation claims.  They coordinate between SBWC departments, co-workers and/or external customers as appropriate.  A Settlement Staff Attorney must also maintain proficiency in workers' compensation law and current issues.

Minimum Training & Experience:  Completion of a law degree AND License to practice law in the State of Georgia OR Eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR Reciprocity.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021)

Some veterans may be eligible to receive either 5 or 10 points added to their passing score on a numerically scored pre-employment assessment.
