Job Summary

The Financial Aid Technician is responsible for performing administrative, clerical, and customer service duties in support of student financial aid services.  The position is housed at the Carroll Campus with occasional travel between campuses required.

 

Essential Functions

·        Greet visitors, answer telephones, respond to texts and emails, and provide financial aid information and resources to students, parents, and the general public

·        Instruct students in correct procedures for completing forms and applications, special requirements and restrictions, and supporting documentation

(20%)

·        Evaluate financial aid applications and supporting documents for accuracy, clarity, and completeness to determine basic eligibility for financial aid

(20%)

·        Update appropriate BANNER screens related to document intake process

(15%)

·        Provide clerical support to financial aid staff as needed

(10%)

·        Other duties as assigned

(5%)

 

 

Competencies

·        Knowledge of student financial aid processes and procedures;

·        Knowledge of college, state and federal student financial aid programs, regulations and guidelines;

·        Detail orientated, able to multitask and possess strong organizational skills;

·        Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations;

·        Ability to follow detailed instructions and consistently apply rules;

·        Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs;

·        Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public;

·        Oral and written communication skills.

 

Work Environment 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and technologies.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, mainly located on the Carroll Campus. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 6 pm and Friday, 8 am until 12 pm.  This position occasionally requires longer hours and some weekend work.

Travel

Travel to other campus locations is required, as needed. Some overnight travel may be required.

 

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED *and* (1) year of work related experience. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience

·        Associate Degree

·        Previous experience in Financial Aid;

·        Working familiarity with applicable federal and state regulations and TCSG regulations and procedures;

·        Proficiency with Banner and Microsoft office products;

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

·        Able to work effectively with diverse populations;

·        Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
