Job Description:

The Academic Advisor is responsible for delivering excellent and relevant academic advisement, information and services to technical college students.
A minimum of Associates degree in general studies, business, management, education, or related area.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

               

1. Advises students on academic requirements and selection of courses.

2. Assists students in developing and personalizing an education plan.

3. Disseminates information on institutional policies and procedures.

4. Reviews and interprets placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites.

5. Understands the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.

6. Interprets degree audits.

7. Understands graduation requirements for programs.

8. Monitors student registration activities and recommends solutions to academic difficulties.

9. Coordinates communications to the students regarding advisement, academic calendar, and other related issues.

10. Maintains accurate electronic records of interactions with students

11. Serves as student advocate when appropriate.

12. Refers students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as financial     aid assistance, career advisement, admissions processes, business office questions.

13. Participates in the development, implementation, review, presentation, and revision of orientations for the first-time college students and transfer students.

14. Stays abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.

15. Engages in professional development activities, including but not limited to attendance at conferences, workshops, division, and department training sessions; stay current with information technology skills.

16. Participates in the planning, implementation, and the evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives.

17. Participates in institutional student development and retention programs.

18. Serves as resource for faculty/staff.

19. Assists in the development of advising materials and presentations to support individual and group student sessions.

20. Completes administrative reports as assigned.

21. Enters program schedules in Banner.

22. Assist Deans with collection of documentation from faculty.

23. Participates in required staff development activities.

24. Performs other duties as assigned by the Academic Advisement Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and Two (2) years of related work experience.
