POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:                    DISTANCE EDUCATION SPECIALIST

                                                                                            

REPORTS TO:             DIRECTOR OF DISTANCE EDUCATION

SALARY:                       Upper $40’s to $50k annually, depending on experience and qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Distance Education Specialist is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Distance Education department. Duties will include providing technical support and troubleshooting of the learning management system for students and faculty, and supporting the implementation, coordination, and supervision of the programs, policies, and services of the Distance Education Department.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Provides technical assistance to instructional staff and others involved with the learning management system and instructional technology;
  • Assists student and faculty with beginning-of-term and end-of-term duties;
  • Assists faculty with ensuring courses meet minimum organizational, state, and ADA-compliant minimum standards;
  • Resolves conflicts associated with online learning;
  • Facilitates the creation, organization, and implementation of professional staff development programs/activities related to distance education technology, educational technology, instructional computing and learning resources;
  • Conducts needs assessments designed to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats relative to service excellence;
  • Develops and implements evaluations systems to ensure continuous quality improvement;
  • Analyzes data, formulates assigned strategic and operational plans, and establishes priorities for implementation;
  • Coordinates the establishment of goals, objectives, and priorities for distance education, technology, educational technology, instructional computing, and learning resources;
  • Would be expected to report to a campus other than Hall county no more than once per week;
  • Establishes and supervises processes and expectations for environments;
  • Establishes and supervises processes and expectations for faculty who teach in videoconferencing, hybrid, or online environments; and
  • Other work duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related work experience.
    Note: Additional experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to work flexible hours and at multiple campuses/off-site locations as needed.
  • Knowledge of internet and networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of multi-media technologies.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies):

  • Experience with the Blackboard Ultra LMS.
  • Experience with help desk ticketing systems such as Freshdesk.
  • Experience with videoconferencing software such as WebEx.
  • Experience with productivity software such as Microsoft Office 365 or Google Apps for Education.
  • Previous experience in K-12 and/or the TCSG system is highly recommended.

Physical Demands

Will occasionally lift or move objects of a light to medium weight, up to 20 pounds.  Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings.  Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.

State of GA benefits include: A choice of retirement plans (Georgia State Employees’ Pension and Savings Plan or Teachers’ Retirement System), health and flexible benefits insurance options, sick leave and annual leave accruals (10 hours each monthly), and 13 state holidays. This position is available for telework one day per week after 6 months of employment.
