Job Description:

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Dean of Adult Education, the Lead Instructor prepares and provides standards-based instruction for High School Equivalency (HSE) Tests (i.e., GED and HiSET) in the academic areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies for adult education students at WGTC.  In addition to classroom instruction and evaluating students’ progress, the full-time lead instructor also provides first level support to adult ed instructors and staff on the assigned campus and ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

•    Deliver standards-based instruction for High School Equivalency (HSE) Tests (i.e., GED and HiSET)/(TABE) Test of Adult Basic Education, in the academic areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  Recruits, supervises and directs classroom volunteers.      (60%)

•    Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction and obtains or prepares instructional materials for classroom use. Coordinates schedule for teacher substitutes and volunteers.    (10%)
•    Provide first level support to all instructors and staff in the Adult Education program on the Douglasville campus of WGTC. Prepares and maintains all required documents and administrative reports.    (20%)
•    Engage in recruitment and retention activities, promotes the adult education program to public and private organizations throughout the Service Delivery Area of the College.    (5%)
•    Plans, organizes and participates in staff development and team conferences.    (2.5%)
•    Other Duties as Assigned     (2.5%)

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment and technologies.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time instructor position. Work load is Monday-Friday, some evening hours may be required.  

Rate of Pay/Benefits:

Required Education and Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
•    Experience teaching adults basic academic skills (reading, math, writing) in a formal educational setting and/or teaching experience in middle, secondary, adult or post-secondary education.

Preferred Education and Experience: 
•    Teaching experience in adult education within the last two years.  
•    Advanced degree in content areas of reading, math, English, curriculum and instruction, adult education, or special education.
•    Experience working in a formal classroom 
•    Experience with blackboard.
•    Strong computer, communication, and interpersonal skills;
