POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Associate Director of Libraries

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Associate Director is a member of the department management team who provides leadership and oversight of day to day functions of the Library Services Department. The position will support the Director of the Libraries and serves in place of the Director, when needed, including at applicable meetings. The Associate Director has a key role in decision making and procedure development. Additionally, the position is responsible for serving as the Campus Librarian for their assigned campus library, coordinating the department’s instruction efforts, and functioning as the department contact for department purchasing/acquisitions issues. The position assists the Director in planning, developing and administering the overall operations of all Campus Libraries.

MAJOR DUTIES:

PUBLIC SERVICES

  • Coordinates the functions of a campus library, including establishing hours of operation, scheduling staff, submitting proposed budgets, and managing allocated funds
  • Provides the services of research, reference, and circulation to the students, faculty and staff of the college and to other patrons
  • Provides individual and group bibliographic instruction and library orientation
  • Maintains a quiet, orderly, clean and visually appealing environment that is conducive to reading and study.
  • Markets library services to students, faculty and staff
  • Informs campus faculty and staff of recent acquisitions and relevant resources

LIBRARY SERVICES

  • Supervises the various functions of circulation, including the checking in and out of materials, the creation and management of course reserves, the fulfillment of intralibrary and interlibrary loan requests, the creation and mailing of fine notices, and the placing of holds on student records for unpaid fines and lost or damaged items
  • Manages the local print and audiovisual collections, including selection, acquisition and weeding; provides input on the selection of online resources for the college; collaborates with program faculty in selection and weeding
  • Manages or coordinates the receipt of library materials, including books, discs, periodicals, supplies, furniture, and equipment; reconciles packing lists, invoices and other statements; maintains complete records of library expenditures and monies collected for fines, copying and other services
  • Manages the periodicals holdings records of the college library and communicates with library staff regarding additions or deletions to the periodicals collection
  • Trains, schedules, and manages assigned library staff
  • Collaborates with professionals and paraprofessionals in the main and branch campus libraries to create instructional handouts and other tools, to develop and coordinate library policies and procedures, and to ensure that services are offered consistently throughout the college
  • Gathers statistics regarding the use of the library
  • Engages in professional development activities
  • Performs related duties

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Instruction Librarian: coordinates instruction efforts across all campuses. Includes: outreach, maintaining standards for in-person library instruction, scheduling online library instruction workshops, development and maintenance of asynchronous library instruction offerings, video editing and posting, and working with Distance Learning staff to manage integration of library services and resources into Blackboard.
  • Acquisitions Librarian: Services as the department point of contact for questions related to ordering, receiving, and invoicing materials purchased for library collections
  • Other: Works with Director to address departmental training needs, procedure development, overall instruction and outreach efforts, college-wide and program/division communication efforts, and staffing issues as needed.

COLLEGE SERVICES

  • Represents the faculty, library, and/or college by serving on statewide, TCSG, and college committees

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution *and* Two (2) years of experience as a Librarian.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years professional academic library experience including experience doing library instruction.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $62,304.89 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that Chattahoochee Tech employees will be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.

TELEWORK: At the discretion of the supervisor, and as coverage permits; if other library staff are available, this position may telework up to 10-hours per week when classes are in session and up to 20 hours per week during school breaks.
