Job Summary: Under broad supervision provides analysis and/ or recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the agency. Acts as liaison or representative between the agency and the Department of Law

Location: 270 Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta GA, 30303. This position may be eligible for hybrid or remote work, as applicable, and may be adjusted in accordance with business requirements
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- This position consists primarily of assisting the three-member Board of Directors in reviewing, analyzing, and disposing of workers’ compensation appeals.
- The Staff Attorney will be responsible for attending appellate oral arguments, performing legal research, providing analysis and policy recommendations, and drafting legal memoranda, orders, and awards.
- The Staff Attorney may have the opportunity to be trained as a Settlement Adjudicator. Opportunity also exists for professional advancement.
- Determine validity of claim and associate liability according to current laws, judicial and administrative precedents and available evidence.
- Prepare written responses to clients
- Recommends the acceptance or rejection of claims or compromise settlements
- Ensures compliance with all applicable SBWC policies, state and federal regulations.

State Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia
- OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience
- OR Two years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021)
SBWC Specific Qualifications and Competencies
- have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school; be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia (or be eligible for admission on motion); have excellent legal research, writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills. A successful candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
