Job Description:

The Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC) is seeking an experienced Assistant Public Defender 4 in the Appellate Division to provide exceptional legal representation to indigent clients in criminal appeals. This position is responsible for independently managing complex appellate cases, including conducting comprehensive legal research, analyzing trial records, drafting persuasive appellate briefs, and presenting oral arguments and motions for new trial before Georgia courts. Applicants must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.

The Assistant Public Defender 4 serves as a senior-level attorney and is expected to exercise sound legal judgment while handling challenging and high-impact appellate matters. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet strict filing deadlines. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate in a related area from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and three (3) years of relevant legal experience; or three (3) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 3 (LEP022).
