THIS POSITION IS GRANT FUNDED

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), Operations and Customer Experience Division, is seeking three (3) qualified candidates for the Safety and Compliance Specialist 3 position within its Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Programs Unit. 

 

Under limited supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for all facets of the initial and ongoing certification requirements for Commercial Vehicle Driver Training Schools, Commercial Driver Training Instructors, State CDL Examiners, Commercial Third-Party Testers, and Third-Party CDL Examiners throughout the State of Georgia. The incumbent will:


·       Serve as the lead to support and monitor the work, planning, and reporting of lower-level Safety and Compliance Specialists in their assigned area

·       Collaborate with other DDS teams on CDL-related requirements and initiatives

·       Document compliance issues and disseminate the appropriate documentation, including but not limited to corrective action plans, emails, and disciplinary action letters

·       Audit and monitor all CDL regulated programs, instructors, and examiners within his or her area of assignment to ensure compliance with federal regulations, agency rules, and state law

·       Interpret and maintain knowledge of state, federal, and other CDL regulations, procedures, and best practices

·       Respond to management and customer inquiries in a professional and timely manner in accordance with the core values of DDS

·       Maintain a positive attitude and be receptive to change in a fast-paced environment

·       Investigate customer complaints, presenting his or her findings to management, and making recommendations to management on the most appropriate course of action.

·       Serve on task teams and workgroups

·       Develop strong partnerships between the Division and its internal and external business partners

·       Assist with training events, certification classes, and community outreach efforts

·       Compile various weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports


Demonstrated competencies needed to successfully perform this job include:

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of job-related experience;  
  • OR
  • One (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Safety & Compliance Spec 2 (RCP011) or position equivalent.

AND

  • Five years of related experience conducting CDL testing, monitoring other examiners and /or training new employees, writing reports, and reviewing documents to determine compliance

Preferred Qualifications:


Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess two or more of the following:

 

  • Georgia Class A or Class B CDL with P and S endorsements
  • Two years’ experience driving a commercial motor vehicle as defined by Federal rule
  • Prior experience implementing State and Federal Commercial Driver’s License Regulations
  • Experience handling and maintaining the security of confidential information and/or documents.

Conditions of Employment:

In-state travel is required for employees in this job. Week-long, overnight travel is also required. Selected candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and can travel statewide. Selected candidates must also be able to physically maneuver under commercial vehicles of all types to conduct vehicle inspections. This position may also involve bending, lifting, and fueling commercial vehicles, performing outdoor activities, working in inclement weather, working on holidays, and working around moving vehicles.
