Job Description:

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision of the Executive Director, Veterans Cemeteries. The Cemetery Manager performs overall management and direction of activities to develop, operate, provide burial services, and maintain an adequate and attractive Veteran cemetery.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that the cemetery facility is maintained to shrine-like standards, provides a safe & pleasing environment for cemetery customers, the public, visitors, & others, and is responsible for the overall quality & accuracy of all services or work performed by cemetery staff or contractors.
  • Oversee cemetery burial, administrative, and maintenance activities.
  • Develops and implements procedures, forms, and work instructions relevant to cemetery operations.
  • Develops cemetery maintenance operating policies, objectives, and priorities consistent with cemetery needs.
  • Ensures the timely preparation, documentation, and submission of reports.
  • Monitors and acts to ensure cemetery operations are in compliance with Veterans Administration/National Cemetery Administration, State, GDVS, and any other requirements as needed to maintain compliance or direct quality improvement activities.
  • Perform inspections of the cemetery buildings and grounds to ensure it is adequately maintained for use and safe for employees or visitors.
  • Manage daily cemetery operational accounting needs for state and federal funds, such as submitting & tracking invoices for payment, requesting & implementing Purchase Orders, tracking vehicle fuel card use, and other as needed.
  • Maintains accountability of all federal funds requested and received because of interment actions through VA claims and reimbursement processes.
  • May assist in planning and preparing budget documents, strategic goals, construction plans, cost estimates, and other department functions as needed.
  • Coordinates activities for construction, capital outlay, and repair and maintenance projects. Monitors and will enforce strict budgetary controls for cemetery project costs.
  • Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges employees.
  • Coordinates appropriate interaction between other department programs, state agencies, federal agencies, external customers, and others as needed.

Note: The Primary Location for this vacancy will be in Augusta GA.

Entry Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree, from a regionally accredited institution, preferably in a related field desired Two years of job-related experience OR Two years of experience as a Cemetery Representative or Cemetery Technician Supervisor. Must have a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

 Military retiree or veteran preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel programs.

Strong organizational skills.

Excellent listening and problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, preferably in a related field, and two (2) years of job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience as a Cemetery Representative or Cemetery Technician Supervisor. Must have a valid driver's license.
