Start your career in public service. The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) is seeking candidates for the position of Child Welfare Services Technician 1. This position is located in Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia.

Job Description: Under direct supervision, provides a broad range of paraprofessional social services to clients and their families. Conducts intakes, participates in planning, makes collateral contacts, screens clients for case history.  Assists clients with social or personal problems.  May provide support services and/or serve as a liaison for social services.  May perform case-management activities.

This position has designated special entry salary and is non-negotiable.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Completes intakes based on interviews with client, family or reporter.

  • Maintains contact with other social service agencies, health care providers, etc. involved with clients to provide information an obtain updates on client’s progress.

  • Conducts screenings and/or searches for case history, relatives, etc.

  • Assists clients in locating and utilizing community resources, such as legal, medical, financial assistance, etc.

  • Organizes records, uploads data & documents into records, pulls reports, compiles data, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED AND One (1) year of job-related experience in a social services related position.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience:

  • Prior experience working in a child welfare related field.
