Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:    

The Communications Specialist 1 supports internal communication efforts by developing strategies, plans, and content that enhance employee engagement and message clarity. This role involves researching, writing, and editing internal communications such as emails, presentations, and talking points to ensure consistent messaging across the organization. The specialist also ensures content is delivered through the appropriate channels and is aligned with the broader marketing strategy under the guidance of the Director of Communications & Marketing. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Write and edit press releases, web pages, newsletters, and talking points. 

  • Manage day-to-day social media for assigned channels, track engagement and basic analytics. 

  • Coordinate with program staff to develop communications plans for projects or events. 

  • Support multimedia content creation (basic photo/video editing) or coordinate with vendors. 

  • Design communication collateral includes print and digital materials including brochures, newsletters and social media ads. 

  • Maintain editorial calendars and ensure accessibility and brand compliance. 

  • Performs all other duties as assigned 

 

Core Competencies: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities. 

  • Experience managing and creating content for websites, email platforms, and social media channels. 

  • Basic design and layout skills using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. 

  • Strong organizational and project management skills. 

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

 

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Minimum Qualifications:   

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or related field AND two (2) years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related role 

Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:   

(Preference will be given to candidates who, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience): 

  • Experience with CMS, social scheduling tools, and analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, native social analytics). 

  • Strong AP-style writing and experience preparing staff for media interactions. 

  • Experience with basic graphic tools (Canva, Adobe Spark) and familiarity with website ADA/accessibility policies and best practices.

Office Location: 47 Trinity Ave, Atlanta GA

Worker Type: Hybrid – (in-office: 2-3 days per week)

Target Hiring Salary Range: $53,100 - $67,700

*Current Georgia state government employees will be subject to SPB rule provisions.
