The Department of Revenue is hiring a Compliance Specialist Supervisor. This unit oversees county tax digest approval, complex utility and timberland property appraisals, tax administration compliance, accurate AAVT distributions, Forest Land Grant audits, and training for local tax officials.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Tax Oversight, the Supervisor leads a team of professional staff responsible for auditing tax digests, publishing the annual property tax report, approving digests or assessing penalties, setting rules and forms for property taxation, and training local tax officials on ad valorem taxation.
Key Duties
Overseeing the annual approval of county tax digests and ensuring all documents are uploaded to the DOR Property Tax System.
Compiling and publishing the annual ad valorem tax report.
Examining and auditing Forest Land Grant requests from local entities.
Developing training materials and leading classes for tax commissioners and local officials.
Entry Qualifications - Candidates must meet one of the following for consideration:
- High school diploma/GED and five (5) years of job-related experience, which includes two (2) years in a lead worker, team lead, or supervisory role related to the area of assignment

- Two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Compliance Specialist 3-RCP062 or position equivalent.
*Some positions may require a certification, licensure, and a valid driver's license.
Required Skills and Experience
- Appraiser III certification or higher, with extensive digest acceptance and review experience.
- Instructor experience with the Georgia Certification Program or similar public speaking experience.
- Deep knowledge of Georgia property tax laws and appraisal procedures.
- Customer Service: Address internal and external issues while respecting business needs.
- Teamwork: Foster a positive team atmosphere with colleagues and leadership.
- Judgment: Decide which issues to handle directly and which to redirect.
- Accountability: Act with honesty, integrity, and commitment to organizational success.
- Results Orientation: Meet deadlines and performance goals through efficient problem solving.
- Talent Management: Develop team members through delegation, coaching, and training.
Preferred Qualifications - The ideal candidate may also bring:
- Management or supervisory experience.
- Governmental accounting and auditing experience.
- Instructor experience with the Georgia Certification Program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Position Details
- Status/Pay Grade: Unclassified – Pay Grade N
- Salary: $86,000
- Location: South Meadow
- Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. This will be a remote position after demonstrated proficiency. Any requirement to work on-site or attend office events is at the discretion of the Assistant Director and/or Division Director. *All telework schedules are subject to DOR policies and performance expectations.
