Job Description:

Georgia Department of Revenue — Local Government Services Division

Compliance Specialist 1 - This recruitment is open to the public.

The Local Government Services Division plays a vital role in supporting Georgia's local communities. We administer property tax laws, distribute sales and use tax revenue to local authorities, and enforce the Unclaimed Property Act. Our work helps ensure fairness, accuracy, and accountability in how public resources are managed across the state.

Reporting to the Compliance Specialist Supervisor, you will review and monitor county digest compliance with state property tax laws and regulations. This position offers the chance to work directly with county officials, contribute to sound tax administration, and help uphold the standards that keep local governments running smoothly.

Travel is required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position, including regular on-site visits to counties across the state.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing and monitoring county digests to ensure compliance with state property tax laws and regulations.
  • Conducting on-site audits to verify accuracy and adherence to established standards.
  • Assisting counties by providing guidance and support on property tax matters.
  • Instructing classes and training sessions conducted by LGS, as assigned.
  • Managing multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two years of job-related experience. (property tax experience in a Georgia County Board of Assessors office, Tax Commissioner's Office, accounting firm, or auditing firm).

Compensation

  • Pay Grade: Unclassified — Grade K
  • Hiring Range: $61,360

Location & Travel

This is a mobile role assigned to the South Metro Facilities at 4125 Welcome All Rd, Atlanta, GA 30349. Travel is required up to 80% of the time, and a valid Georgia driver's license is mandatory.
