POSITION:               COSMETOLOGY PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND INSTRUCTOR–12 month position

REPORTS TO:         Dean of Business, Public Safety and Professional Services

SALARY RANGE:   Upper $60’s annually, depending on education, qualifications and experience

EFFECTIVE:            August 1, 2026

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position serves as program director and retains status as full-time faculty.It provides leadership for the Cosmetology program at all campus locations where Cosmetology classes are taught.

                                     

MAJOR DUTIES:

Under general supervision, the major duties include the following:

  • Develop program and course outlines, goals, and objectives. 
  • Prepare course content and lesson plans for classroom and online instruction for credited Cosmetology courses.
  • Evaluate student progress in attaining goals and objectives.
  • Request and maintain supplies and equipment, and prepares required budget requests.
  • Maintain program certification requirements, as appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports.
  • Attend required staff development training, workshops, and seminars.
  • Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area.
  • Meet with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students.
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention and student job placement efforts. 
  • Works with Dean to coordinate adjunct faculty and lab assistants.
  • Manages administrative responsibilities related to scheduling, developing syllabi and teaching courses.
  • Supervises and mentors part-time faculty and lab personnel.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Technical Diploma in Cosmetology or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Current GA cosmetologist license
  • Three (3) years appropriate work experience in a position related to the Cosmetology field
  • Appropriate work experience supervising a large staff (i.e. 5-15 employees) in a high paced environment
  • Proficient in curriculum design, administration, evaluation, instruction, and academic advising

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to work flexible hours and juggle multiple and competing priorities
  • Ability to teach at any College campus where Cosmetology classes are taught
  • Ability to participate in appropriate staff development and campus activities
  • Ability to work well in the classroom and supervise students in laboratory settings
  • Ability to develop and evaluate lesson plans
  • Ability to direct and assess students’ progress in achieving required competencies
  • Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, data collection, and reporting for licensing agencies, accreditation agencies and/or the College
  • Have a positive attitude and strong organizational and interpersonal skills  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications & technical

competencies):                      

  • Associate’s degree or higher in education or related discipline from a regionally accredited college or university
  • More than three (3) years appropriate work experience in a position related to the Cosmetology field
  • Three (3) years or more of appropriate work experience supervising a large staff (i.e. 5-15 employees) in a high paced environment
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Being bilingual is a plus.

Physical Demands

Will lift or move objects of a light to medium weight, up to 20 pounds.  Work is typically performed in a classroom and lab environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings.  Full range of hand and finger motion are utilized.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned
