Job Description:

Position: Dean of General Studies and Special Projects

Savannah Technical College is seeking an individual to serve as Academic Dean for the General Studies Division. Under the supervision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, this individual provides leadership, management, and oversight for all General Studies programs, courses, faculty, and instructional services, including community, high school, dual enrollment, and college-level offerings. The Dean also supervises the student tutoring program.  In addition to core academic responsibilities, the Dean provides leadership and oversight for special projects that support institutional priorities and enhance academic operations. Coordinates and facilitates articulation agreements and academic partnerships with secondary schools, technical colleges, universities, and external stakeholders to support student transfer and pathway opportunities. Oversees the work of the Curriculum Committee through coordination with the committee chair, ensuring curriculum proposals, program modifications, and academic policies align with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and Technical College System of Georgia requirements. Leads and supports strategic initiatives related to academic innovation, enrollment growth, workforce development, faculty development, student success, and operational effectiveness. Collaborates with faculty, deans, and college leadership to identify, develop, implement, and assess initiatives that advance the college's strategic plan and mission while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university in English, Mathematics, Business Administration, Educational Leadership, a discipline represented within the General Studies Division, or a closely related field.
  • Appropriate degree will reflect the requirements of college accrediting agencies *and* at least three years of full-time paid work experience within the past seven years in business, industry, education or military environments.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives, lead cross-functional teams, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve institutional objectives.
  • Three years of employment must have been as a full-time instructor.
  • Demonstrated skills in training and/or personnel development.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must possess and maintain the appropriate professional credentials required for or related to the field or position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in curriculum development, instructional methodology, planning, evaluation, budgeting, supervision and management.
  • Three years of full-time work experience as a College Dean within the last seven years.
  • Understanding of the mission and philosophy of technical education.
  • Prior experience in the development, administration, and evaluation of academic programs.
  • Computer skills and ability to use common software programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • The ability to implement technology into instruction.
  • Experience developing and managing articulation agreements, transfer pathways, or academic partnerships with secondary and postsecondary institutions.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing special projects that support student success, enrollment growth, workforce development, or operational improvement.

Physical Demands

The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. The ability to speak clearly 1s required. The ability to hear and understand at a normal conversational level is required. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.
