Job Description:

Office of the Attorney General
Department of Law
Deputy Solicitor General/Assistant Solicitor General

The mission of the Department of Law is to serve the citizens of the State of Georgia by providing legal representation of the highest quality to the agencies, officers, and employees of state government and by honorably and vigorously carrying out the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Attorney General. The Department of Law is organized into the Executive Office, five legal divisions, four specialty units and an operations division. The position filled through this announcement will serve in the Solicitor General Unit.

The Solicitor General for the State of Georgia is now hiring for the position of Deputy Solicitor General and Assistant Solicitor General. Both positions involve significant litigation responsibility, including managing cases, drafting briefs, and presenting oral argument. Lawyers interested in constitutional litigation, appellate practice, and public service are encouraged to apply.

The Office of the Solicitor General directly handles cases of exceptional complexity and public importance, including by leading challenges to unlawful federal agency action and defending Georgia statutes against challenges brought under federal law and the state constitution. The Office also supervises the State’s amicus practice, regularly filing multistate amicus briefs in the Supreme Court and the federal courts of appeals. And the Office oversees high-stakes trial litigation and advises the Attorney General.
