Job Description:

The individual in this position assists teachers with curriculum planning, supervision of students, and teaching children in a classroom setting; assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  •   Provides support to teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment
  •   Assists teachers in planning and preparation for daily activities; aids instructional efforts of the teacher.
  •   Assists the teacher in preparing lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas
  •     Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for use in the classroom, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts
  •     Presents subject matter to students, under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role playing
  •     Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts
  •   Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, copying and filing instructional materials
  •   Operate and care for instructional equipment and materials  
  • Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures
  •   Participate in professional growth activities   
  • Follow the communicated policies and procedures of the school district
  •   Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree from an accredited institution in general education, sociology, or related field

Must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate

Minimum 1 year of experience in a school setting or related field

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Ability to understand and follow safety procedures

Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures

Ability to provide activities for students that encourage healthy growth

Child supervision skills

Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for students

Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Minimum 2 years of experience working in an educational setting

Successful experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
