Job Description:

NOTE: This job may be filled at the Environmental Comp Specialist (Risk Assessor) 1,2, or 3 level based on education, experience, and preferred criteria.

 

This position is located within the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), Land Protection Branch, Risk Assessment Program. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing human-health and ecological risk assessments; evaluating cleanup standards, risk reduction standards, and other technical risk related documents; and providing technical support primarily to the Land Protection Branch, as well as the other branches within EPD.  The incumbent will advise EPD programs and the regulated community on risk-based environmental investigations and cleanup decisions. Technical responsibilities include; evaluating sampling plans, conceptual site models, exposure assessments, dose-response assessment, environmental data analysis, risk characterization and participating in meetings. The position requires knowledge of data analysis, risk characterization, statistical methods, and human health and ecological risk assessment.  The incumbent must be collaborative and solution-oriented, self-motivated, capable of working under general to minimal supervision, and able to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines. Strong analytical, technical writing, and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to clearly explain complex scientific information to regulators, consultants, facility representatives, and members of the public.

 

Preference may be given to applicants with:

 

Experience conducting or reviewing human-health and ecological risk assessments, screening levels, cleanup standards, and risk reduction standards.

Proficiency with U.S. EPA risk-assessment tools, including the RSL and VISL calculators, Adult Lead Model, and ProUCL.

Knowledge of exposure and toxicity assessment, risk characterization, conceptual site models, contaminant fate and transport, soil-to-groundwater leaching, and vapor intrusion.

Strong analytical and environmental data-analysis skills.

Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide technically sound recommendations.
