Job Description:

This Team Lead position is located in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) - Watershed Protection Branch – Drinking Water Unit – Drinking Water Inspection Team. This position is responsible for managing the Sanitary Survey commitments that are required to be completed as a part of EPD’s Public Water System Supervision (PWSS) grant. The position also responds to complaints from the public about water quality and coordinates with water systems on boil water advisories. This position will work with other units in EPD and other state and federal agencies to manage the complete drinking water sanitary survey process. This position will require in-state travel, interaction with drinking water professionals and organizations, the general public, water system operators, state inspectors and other state and federal regulatory managers. In addition to performing comprehensive inspections and sanitary surveys on complex drinking water treatment plants with surface water sources, this position includes daily supervisory oversight of two staff including annual performance management planning and evaluations. The Team Lead documents inspections in electronic databases and in written reports. The Team Lead reviews periodic reports from facilities and drafts enforcement documents when necessary to remedy noncompliance. The Team Lead is expected to develop technical expertise in water treatment processes and a working knowledge of applicable regulations so as to provide technical assistance to water systems throughout Georgia. The Team Lead responds to drinking water-related emergencies and provides assistance to the emergency support function for the water sector, as needed. Treatment facilities can be large, and inspections can be moderately strenuous, some taking several days, requiring extensive walking, climbing over and under operating equipment and climbing ladders. The Team Lead should be comfortable using computers and standard office equipment, and must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, or another closely related field from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional job-related experience in environmental protection; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Environmental Complnc Spec 3 (RCP022) or position equivalent.
