Job Description:

FINANCIAL AID COORDINATOR

PRIMARY LOCATION:  DeKalb/Newton Campus

DESCRIPTION: 

The Financial Aid Coordinator is responsible for all State of Georgia student aid programs offered at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. These responsibilities span from awarding to the reconciliation of state aid. This position will provide counseling to current and potential students seeking financial aid assistance at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Prepares and analyzes operational statistics, data and reports such as grades and enrollment status or award status to verify continued compliance and eligibility of student receiving aid under federal and institutional guidelines; notifies students of changes in eligibility of awards and alternative to amend the situation. Check students for Satisfactory Academic Progress; assist with workshops and seminars on campus; provide customer service to students, staff and external customers. Perform other duties as assigned. This individual will report to the Executive Director of Financial Aid. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Possession of a considerable knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting, business English, spelling and a working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; skill in the proficient operation of office machines, especially the personal computer, with knowledge of several applications (i.e., spreadsheet, database, etc.); ability to maintain office records and prepare routine reports from such records. 

Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills and ability to work in a high- volume and fast paced environment required. Ability to work harmoniously with other employees; must be detail-oriented with the ability to meet and interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Manage customer service and call center support by handling inquiries in- person, answering phone calls, email responses and updating account records.  

Performs other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field *and* Two (2) years related work experience which demonstrates knowledge of federal, state and institutional sources of financial aid. NOTE: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Experience working in a Financial Aid office at an institution of higher education. First consideration will be given to applicants with at least two or more year’s previous direct lending experience at a post-secondary school. 

BANNER: Financial Aid experience, Surfer, COD and NSLDS experience desired.
