Job Description:

Job Summary

Under general supervision, manages a school food service operation in an organized and efficient manner. Duties include, but are not limited to: directing the activities of cafeteria workers while also meeting state and division requirements; attending in-service trainings and workshops; supervising food service operations to ensure that food is served in a safe and sanitary environment; completing and submitting accurately all required daily, weekly and monthly food service reports according to established deadlines; directing the preparation of food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures; assessing the appropriate quantity of food to order, prepare and serve according to projected meal counts; receiving and verifying all deliveries and addressing unsatisfactory products or services; preparing invoices for payment in a timely manner according to established procedures; securing substitute personnel when needed to ensure that food is served appropriately; providing regular updates and all supporting information to the school administrator according to established procedures; evaluating the performance of other food service staff; providing instruction, direction and coaching when needed for other food service workers; reporting supply needs in a timely fashion; and reporting any essential repairs for equipment.

Note: Georgia Department of Education Training-in-Depth core courses (1–4) Food Services certification must be obtained within four years of employment.

Job Responsibilities

· Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate food service staff.

· Plan and coordinate meal preparation and service according to approved menus.

· Ensure meals meet nutritional, dietary, and portion requirements.

· Maintain compliance with USDA, state, local health department, and school food service requirements.

· Monitor food preparation, storage, temperatures, sanitation, and cleanliness.

· Maintain appropriate inventory levels and assist with ordering food, supplies, and equipment.

· Maintain accurate records, reports, production records, and other required documentation.

· Ensure proper operation, cleaning, and maintenance of kitchen equipment.

· Work closely with school administration, staff, students, vendors, and other departments.

· Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Preferred Qualifications

· Associate degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, Institutional Food Service, or closely related area

· Georgia Department of Education Training-in-Depth core courses (1–4) Food Services certification

· Experience using school nutrition management software such as Mosaic, NutriKids, PrimeroEdge, SchoolCafé, LINQ/TITAN, or other comparable K‑12 school nutrition systems

· Prior school nutrition program experience in a K‑12 setting, including menu planning, inventory management, production records, meal accountability, and/or compliance documentation.

· Working knowledge of USDA School Nutrition Program requirements, including National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) regulations, meal pattern compliance, production records, and administrative review readiness

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of supervisory experience in a food service operation at the level of a shift supervisor; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Food Svc Spec 3 (FFT012) or position equivalent.
