Job Description:

FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION TITLE:         Funeral Service Education Program Instructor

           

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The faculty member will provide course instruction for the Funeral Service Education Program. General responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Prepare a weekly planner for learning activities that align with the established Student Learning Outcomes for each course.
  • Demonstrate the effective use of oral and written communication skills and knowledge of current procedures in course content.
  • Review and finalize the course syllabi utilizing the Department and program-provided templates.
  • Review and finalize the Learning Management System (Blackboard) courses that are used to facilitate and support the student learning experience.
  • Evaluate students' progress in attaining Student Learning Outcomes.
  • Request and maintain supplies and equipment, as needed to support the learning environment.
  • Submit required documentation, such as final grades, attendance records, or other student-related information on a timely basis.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, TCSG, and accreditation standards.
  • Establish a classroom environment conducive to student learning and success.
  • Advise students on academic and occupational curricula.
  • Assess student learning outcomes and program outcomes.
  • Participate in the program’s recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities.
  • Assist in the budget process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classrooms/laboratories.
  • Committee participation is expected, as well as other department, college, and community projects.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills in various modes of instruction and knowledge of learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess an awarded bachelor’s degree, and be willing to obtain a master’s degree within 5 years of date of hire at OTC in any of the qualifying or related fields: Mortuary Science, Biology, Microbiology, Pathology, Psychology, Sociology, or Business Management.
  • Must be a graduate of a Funeral Service Education institution accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE).
  • Must be a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the state of Georgia.
  • Must possess and demonstrate effective verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to student success initiatives.
  • Three years of paid work experience working or teaching in the field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior college-level teaching experience with evidence of effective and student-centered instructional practices.
  • Experience with the development and delivery of academic courses in both online and traditional modalities.
  • An awarded master's degree in one of the following qualifying fields: Mortuary Science, Biology, Microbiology, Pathology, Psychology, Sociology, or Business Management.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees, work experience, and The Commission on Colleges and University (Formerly SACSCOC) Faculty Credential Guidelines.
  • The successful candidate may be asked to teach in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
  • The successful candidate may be required to travel to and teach classes at any Ogeechee Technical College location or oversee student learning experiences at approved clinical sites.
  • In programs that require professional licensure, an active, unencumbered license must be provided by the applicant during the interview process. 

SALARY/BENEFITS:
