Job Description:

Are you a caring person looking to make a difference in the lives of people with serious mental illness?

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is looking for team members to support our patients. In this role, you will work in a hospital setting alongside doctors and nurses. You will care for adults who live with severe mental illness, past trauma, and trouble controlling impulses.

By keeping our buildings safe, warm, and in good repair, you directly help our patients learn daily skills and feel supported on their path to recovery.

Job Summary

As a General Trades Tech 3, you will do skilled repair, maintenance, and building work across our facility. You will help build, fix, and maintain state buildings and campus structures. You will also oversee important building systems—like security doors, heating, and air conditioning—to make sure our hospital runs safely every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building Repairs & Maintenance

    • Fix and maintain electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling (HVAC), carpentry, and structural systems.

    • Install and repair secure doors, locks, lights, and climate control units to keep patient areas safe and comfortable.

    • Fix problems quickly when emergency maintenance issues pop up.

  • Safety & System Care

    • Check building equipment regularly to make sure it meets safety rules.

    • Keep track of all tools and materials at all times to keep the hospital environment safe for patients and staff.

    • Read blue prints, repair manuals, and safety guides to complete jobs correctly.

  • Team Lead & On-Call Work

    • Help guide and train lower-level maintenance workers (Trades Tech 1 and 2).

    • The position is assigned to day shift.

    • Take turns working on a 24/7 on-call schedule to handle night, weekend, or holiday emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Availability: Must be able to work 24/7 on-call shifts when assigned.

  • Note: Some positions may require special licenses or certifications in trades like HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a hospital, healthcare center, or secure facility.

  • Trade licenses or certificates (such as an EPA HVAC license).

  • A caring attitude and the ability to work respectfully around adults with mental health needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level General Trades Tech 2 (FET031) or position equivalent.--Note: Some positions may require area-specific certifications/licenses.
